Building on our last conference theme “Building the Classroom”, we decided to focus on asking our members to share their wisdom, strategies and resources that help create dynamic classrooms. As a result, the theme “Teaching Actively” was born. This theme encompasses a wide variety of topics, including: assessment, portfolios, language testing, promoting language and intercultural awareness, learner motivation, managing curriculum outcomes with EALs, and many more. Instructors working in various teaching environments (i.e. rural or urban) will be able to access a broad range of practical applications via the numerous workshops and break-out sessions.
At this year’s conference, we are very pleased to welcome Dr. Steven Marshall and Dr. Paula Kristmanson as our Keynote speakers. They have each graciously agreed to lead a workshop in addition to their keynote address. Look for more details when we post our presentation schedule.
We hope, by listening and learning from these great speakers, you will consider more deeply your current classroom techniques and how those could be adjusted to motivate or innovate your students and stakeholders.
In short, we believe both new and experienced teachers will come away from our conference with a toolkit of ideas, which may help in building your classroom as a place where students can be creative, heard, and feel committed to learning using effective practices.
We are eagerly looking forward to your attendance at our conference on April 24th & 25th, 2020 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Regina!
Sincerely,
Selinda England & Liz Rowley, Conference Co-Chairs.
