CLB Essential Skills and Employment
 
Event Details: 
This workshop gives a brief overview of the new version of the Essential Skills/ Canadian Language Benchmark Comparative Framework Document along with some examples of CLB Can Do Statements for Employment, which describe what learners can do at various benchmarks in the skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.  These lists provide instructors, counselors, employers and clients a common vocabulary to discuss workplace language competencies through sample tasks.

Anne Senior Bio:
 
Anne Senior is a highly experienced educator and facilitator with over 20 years of experience working in the fields of second language assessment and training, and cross-cultural communication. For eight years, Anne was the lead administrator in a LINC program. She is a CLBPT assessor and regional trainer.
Anne is a specialist consultant with the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks; she worked on the revision and validation of the Canadian Language Benchmarks and the development of CLB: ESL for ALL.  She provides expert advice on PBLA and ELBP to CCLB staff and stakeholders. Anne is a Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test assessor who also develops CLB tools and resources. She uses the CLB in the workplace when teaching English for Specific Purposes.
Anne is a member of the Newcomer Language Advisory Body (NLAB) and sits on the Ottawa Local Immigrant Partnership (OLIP) language and employment tables and the Canadian Network of Agencies for Regulation (CNAR) language table.
As president of ASTEC Inc.,  Anne also consults with public and private sector clients that reference their training and assessment to the  Canadian Language Benchmarks, Common European Framework (CEFR), the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and the Interagency Language Roundtable  ILR ) proficiency levels.

Anne Senior has presented on language related topics at more than 200 conferences and workshops in Canada and abroad.
